Hello, my name is Debbie Schmidt. Since elementary school I wanted to work in education so I could make a positive difference in people’s lives and support them in reaching their greatest potential.
I earned Bachelor of Science in secondary education with a biology major and a psychology minor from University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire. While I was “finding my niche” I worked in a residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed adolescents and St. Olaf College as a hall director. I earned my Master’s of Science in School Counseling from Mankato State University. I was a high school counselor, then elementary counselor in the Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools for five year. The last six years I was a high school counselor at Monroe High School. I also gained an insider’s view of Blackhawk Technical College the three summers I worked there as a part-time counselor.
I am excited to help each individual reach his or her goals, overcome obstacles, and develop their potential with the flexible and extensive offerings through the Virtual School. Whether they plan to enter the world of work, a branch of the military, technical or four-year college, I want to work with students to develop a plan so they can get the most out of their education and gain the experiences necessary to make them highly qualified to enter the next phase of their life.
